Find Your Way – MichiganTrailMaps.com
It was the birthday party nobody showed up for. In 2020, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore was set to celebrate its 50th anniversary when the coronavirus pandemic took hold of the country. In March, the National Park Service had to cancel months of special events and then the park itself.
This year MichiganTrailMaps.com is honoring our wonderful lakeshore. All the above photos are scenes from Sleeping Bear Dunes and Jim DuFresne has contributed a piece on his favorite day hikes in the national park.
We also teamed up with Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes, that wonderful all-volunteer group that grooms the ski trails and spearheads trail development, to produce a new guidebook of maps for the park’s 15 mainland trails. It will be available at the park’s visitor center in Emprie or you can order now from our e-shop.
It’s always surprising how many Michiganders have never been to Sleeping Bear or simply visited the Dune Climb and called it quits. It may be a national lakeshore but it’s our park. Spend a weekend there this summer.
